About Us

Premier Medical Group is a private practice that can trace its origin to 1950. We provide comprehensive primary care to adult patients in Owensboro and 18 surrounding counties in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Our providers also have a special interest in the treatment of diabetes, thyroid disorders and other endocrinology conditions. Divisions of our organization are Premier Aesthetics and Premier Lab.

Providers

Bernard J. Buchanan, MD, PhD

Bernard J. Buchanan, MD, PhD

Dr. Buchanan is the President of Premier Medical. He joined the practice in 1992. He has a Doctor of Medicine degree with honors from Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine where he also obtained a Doctor of Philosophy and Physiology degree. He completed his internal medicine fellowship and residency at Northwestern University Hospitals in Chicago, as well as his endocrinology fellowship at Hines Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, IL. Dr. Buchanan is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville and part of the clinical faculty at the University of Kentucky and Vanderbilt University. He has been published in over 35 clinical publications and is board certified.

Bradley S. King, MD

Bradley S. King, MD

Dr. King joined Premier Medical in July 2021. He is a board-certified family physician, and focuses on adult diabetes, thyroid disorders, and primary care. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he also completed his residency. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Wichita State University. Dr. King has 34 years of military service and serves with the Kentucky Army National Guard. He has had three tours in Iraq, two tours in the US, and one tour in Poland. He had a solo, private practice in Ohio before practicing medicine in Owensboro. Dr. King sees patients in the office on Burlew Boulevard.

Shannon B. Gleason, DNP, APRN, FNP-C

Shannon B. Gleason, DNP, APRN, FNP-C

Dr. Shannon Gleason joined our practice in August 2023. She has a Bachelors degree in Nursing from Jacksonville State University in Alabama, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice, Family Nurse Practitioner from Western Kentucky University. She has been practicing for over twenty years. Dr. Gleason has most recently worked as a nurse practitioner in cardiology and electrophysiology at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. At Owensboro Health, she provided care to patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, sick sinus syndrome, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease. Her healthcare experience includes charge nurse in a Level I Trauma Center and a critical care unit, cardiac nurse in intensive care and electrophysiology lab, nurse consultant, charge nurse in cardiovascular intensive care in a Level II Trauma Center, and adjunct faculty member. Her clinical research has been published in the Electrophysiology Lab Digest. She holds numerous licenses, certifications, and is a member of several professional organizations. Dr. Gleason provides primary care and cardiology services to our patients in the office. She also conducts follow-up visits for endocrinology.

Angela M. Rogers, APRN

Angela M. Rogers, APRN

Ms. Rogers joined the practice in 2015. She received her Bachelors degree in nursing from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY and her Masters degree in nursing from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. Ms. Rogers has worked at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in the cardiac stepdown unit, critical care unit, and open heart recovery. She worked at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in the medical/surgical unit. She is a member of the Kentucky Coalition of Nurse Practitioners Nurse-Midwives and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

R. Brianna McCarty, APRN

R. Brianna McCarty, APRN

Ms. McCarty began her healthcare career in 2017. She worked as a registered nurse in the cardiac care unit at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital prior to joining Premier Medical Group. Brianna began working with us as part of our hospital team seeing inpatients. She then accepted an outpatient position in our office on Burlew, where she now provides primary care and endocrinology services to adults. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Murray State University, and has a Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Southern Indiana. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Aileen A. Smith, APRN

Aileen A. Smith, APRN

Ms. Smith became part of our inpatient care team in June 2021. She assisted Dr. Buchanan at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. In September 2024, she began seeing patients in the office. Ms. Smith has a Bachelors degree in nursing from the University of Texas, and a Masters degree in nursing from Walden University where she specialized in adult gerontology and acute care. She also worked as a registered pharmacist and pharmaceutical sales representative. Ms. Smith previously was a nurse at Detar Hospital in Victoria, TX, and at Owensboro Health. She is a member of various nursing organizations, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, and the Golden Key International Honor Society.

Kathy A. Thiesse, APRN

Kathy A. Thiesse, APRN

Ms. Thiesse joined our group in 2019 where she assisted Dr. Buchanan with inpatient care at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. In September 2024, she began providing wound care to our patients in the office. She received a Bachelors degree in nursing from Concordia University in River Forest, IL, and a Masters degree in nursing from Loyola University in Chicago. Ms. Thiesse is a certified Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, and has a specialty in wound care. She has worked for Loyola University Health Systems in the liver and heart transplant areas, wound care clinic, and emergency department. Ms. Thiesse has presented academic posters in wound treatment and prevention. She is a member of several professional organizations.

Marietta R. Payne, RN

Marietta R. Payne, RN

Marietta is our Chronic Care Coordinator and is responsible for the management of our patients with multiple chronic conditions. She has over 35 years of healthcare experience that includes hospital intensive care, emergency medicine, pulmonology, cardiology, hospice, wound care, and geriatric medicine in long-term care settings. Prior to joining Premier Medical, Marietta worked for Signature Healthcare as a Nurse Consultant for four facilities. She also held clinical management positions with Extendicare and Trilogy Healthcare. She received her degree in nursing from Western Kentucky University and is a member of several professional associations.

Management Team

Sharon G. Johnson is the administrator for Premier Medical Group. She has worked with the organization for over 15 years. She graduated from Murray State University with a Master of Business Administration degree, and from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with an interest in accounting. Her experience includes manufacturing, research & development, higher education, and healthcare administration. She is a member of various professional organizations including Medical Group Management Association, and volunteers with community and civic organizations.

Our leadership team includes managers for the clinic, diagnostic services, aesthetics, research, and administrative services. The average experience of the team is over 20 years. Their mission is to develop continuous improvement initiatives, and compliance.
